Have a special summer

WEST VANCOUVER Rec-
reation Centre is in need of
both genera! program and
special needs volunteers to
help in their summer pro-
grams.

Having fun with children
is one of the basic require-
ments of a general program
volunteer but some of the
other duties may include
planning games, songs and
crafts, leading group pro-
jects or possibly teaching the

thing new and exciting. Both
the volunteer and the special
needs individual have the
chance to experience the
satisfaction of accomplish-
ment.

The Leisure Friends’ pro-
gram is another special needs
volunteer opportunity, It
matches a volunteer with a
special needs person on a
one-to-one basis to enjoy a
variety of community and

public swimming, attending
a craft workshop, walking
the seawall or going to a
fitness class.

Each placement is deter-
mined by the interests and
availability of the volunteer
and all volunteers will
teceive the training and sup-
port they need to enjoy their
experiences.
