Robert Attrell, president of the Canadian Association of Japanese Automobile Dealers, told reporters also the limits may prompt Japanese retaliation against resource products they import from western Canada. The federal government Signed an agreement with Japan in August limiting imports to 153,000 units this year. Association officials said the quota would mean supply of Japanese care would fall 60,000 units short of demand.
