Questioned over robbery of gays A MAN was still being questioned at NEWS press time by RCMP in North Vancouver in connection with three robberies of homosexuals. Council voted to tell the provincial municipal affairs minister that the proposed act, which would revise local and regional planning, ts not acceptable. Many local governments have joined the Greater Vancouver Regional District in condemming the act in recent weeks, saying that it would strip regions and municipalities of their planning powers and give those powers to provincial AS - Sunday, April 11, 1982 - North Shore News telhng him the Land Use Act is umacceptable in many aspects and asking him to wait for further suggestions from local and_ regional officials and staff before enacting it. Alderman Bill Sorenson was the only’ council member to vote against the motion. The act, he said, would only take powers away from the regions, such as the GVRD, and wouldn't affect local governments. “I don’t like regional plan- ning,” he added. But Mayor Jack Loucks said there was a need for regional planning, because of the interdependence of neighboring municipalities, such as the three on the North Shore. “We won't be better off bureacrats. Planner Ron Mann, of Urban Program Planners, has been acting as the City’s planner for many years.
