"Dear Editor: Unfortunately, I missed “the name of the person _ calling for Public Meetings to gain support against the funding proposal for Inde- : "pendent Schools, which was “in the (April 13) newscast headlines at 11 p.m. on _CHOM. ' The reason given was 5 that he felt it was misuse af. tha Pry ie es wea teaw “taxpayer's money to allocate _ funds to sectarian schools to “promote religious education. ' That person is obviously “very badly. misinformed and appears to want to mislead others. Firstly, does he not realize _that all parents of children attending Independent Schools are also taxpayers and. for years have been doubly burdened with having to pay school taxes, from which they have derived no benefit, as well as paying ‘school fees? He has not borne this burden. Secondly, all Independent ‘Schools are not, to use his _.term, ‘‘promoting religious - education’’. May I suggest - that he look up the definition and roots of the words . “*sectarian’’ and ‘‘religion’’ _and he will find that, broadly Dear Editor: . The problem that I would ‘like’ to deal with involves . people of all ages in West ‘Vancouver. This problem is littering. Independent Schools started by gatherings of interested neonle; who were concerned- about their particuiar philosophy of life, and who worked hard to start their school and have contin- ued to work hard to keep it in existence. Can the same be said about all Public Schools? If he is really intending to raise serious objections to educational establishments which add variety and richness to the society in which we live, surely he ‘would do better to demand fair play for all, and come out in support of the Indepen- dent School taxpayers to ensure that they are not penalized by. society for using their rights to freedom of choice. If- he does not want to support our schools, ‘ why should we be forced to support his? Ralph Meyer West Vancouver I live near an elementary school in West Vancouver and 1 spend at least ten minutes every week picking — up the litter that these little darlings throw away on the way home _ from school. These children have not been told not to litter. There were two officers in . the front seat and one beside me, and the seat itself felt as if it was intentionally made to ‘be uncomfortable. Stares from people on the street and in passing cars made me wish I could shrink tight down into the non- existent seat cushions, far out of sight.
