In the early part of the
century, copies of religious
paintings and floral studies
provided most of the subject
matter. By the 1890s, howev-
er, pardy clad women in clas-
sical poses must have proved
the better sellers.

The best examples can sell
for over $10,000. This plaque
is just 7 inches by five inches
(17.8 cm by 12.7 cm). It has
no factory mark or signature,
but it is very finely painted
and is expected to sel} for over
$500 at Heftel’s cnline auc-
tion in December.
