Bob Beaudoin reminds par- ents that it is dangerous for students to be around schools where there are traffic jams and congestion. The Mounties endorse three programs aimed at reducing wattic and creating safer streets around schools. The programs include the Walking School Bus, Way to Go and the BCAA-sponsored School Safety Patrol. Beaudoin, who heads the traffic section, said these initiatives encourage children to take responsibility for their actions and allow for student mentors who “show the way” to others con- cerning safety and responsibility. Students participating in the Walking School Bus, Way to Go and School Safety Patrot programs receive training and are monitored periodically by North Vancouver RCMP officess in the traffic and school liaison sections. Among the schools participating in the various programs are Blueridge, Boundary, Canyon Heights, Carisbrooke, Fromme and Larson elementaries. Meanwhile, the BCAA-sponsored crossing guard program is in its second year at North Vancouver public schools.
