Whiteley Court and East 27th Street Motor vehicle accident. y. December 20, 1998 ~ North Shore News ‘ Ves Cyclist injured after hitting a car coming out onto Whiteley. The bike was travelling south on Whiteley. It had no lights or reflectors and was hard for the 27-year-old car driver to see. 4. St. Georges Avenue and East 2nd Street Motor vehicle accident. A cyclist heading north on St. Georges was struck by a car turning onto St. Georges from across the street. A 40- year-old cyclist: was injured and taken to the hospital. Councillors Barbara Sharp and) Barbara Perrauft: raised the issue of reducing the number of unowned cats at large in North Vancouver, and received the unanimous sup- port of council on Dec. 14. Sharp told) council the new bylaw will require cat owners to register their pets with the city, and that spay- ing and neutering the ani- mals would relieve the cost of cuthanizing the city’s large, unwanted and unowned feral cat population. “This is a very caring way to look after animals that can’t speak for themselves,” she said. “I love animals, I have two cats and if'we ever reach a point in time when overpopu- lation of cats is nota problem, we can revisit: this... it’s dreadful to think these crea- tures are put co sleep because no one cared for them.” Perrault agreed — with Sharp. In an unrelated matter, council also voted in favour of holding a second putstic mecting to dis- cuss an amendment to the new Pet Regulation Bylaw. The amendment deais specifically with zoning, in that any new pet stores that wish ro establish themselves in the city will be prohibited from selling amphibians and reptiles. Pet retailers currently operating ia North Vancouver will not be affected by the new bylaw. The city has been inundat- ed with numerous requests from the public to speak on the issue. A public meeting will be held at city hall on Jan. 18, 1999, with an exact dme to be announced ata later date.
