USED to be that a job
promotion and a
change of residence,
often to another part
of the country, went
hand in hand. Not so
for Deena McNeill,
Birks’ new vice-presi-
dent in charge of retail
sales,

The 117-year-old jeweller
is headquartered in Montreal
but MeNeill, who lives in
North Vancouver, says she “Il
be staving out West.

MeNeill bepan her career
with Birks as a part-time
salesperson 19 years ago.

She was appointed vice-
president of Birks’ Western
Canada stores in °93,

In a vote of confidence,
Birks has accommodated her
wishes to stay in Vancouver
and will base its retail sales
division’s headquarters in
this city.

McNeill sees it as a sign of

the times.

there today, there’s no rea-
son you can’t hold a job in a
different city (than head
office).”
