rail gate

AGATE will not be erected at
the site of a collision earlier
this year between the Royal
Hudson and a truck.

A driver, who survived the
ordeal, was crossing the BC Ruil
tracks at 13th Street Aug. 19,
when the crash occurred. West
Vancouver District Council looked
at the idea of erecting a gate.

All crossings cast of Horseshoe
Bay are regulated by crossing sig-
nals that are both audible and visi-
ble. A crossing at 25th Street has a
gate.

Coun. Allan Williams said
Dec. 11 that conditions at the 13th
Street crossing are far below those
tequired for the installation of a
gate. The municipality would also
have to cover the $100,000 it
would cost tu put in such a cross-
ing, plus the annual maintenance
cost.

Here’s Why.

The cost of servicing grease traps at
restaurants includes charges for pumpout,
hauling and disposal at the Greater Vancouver
Regional District’s lona wastewater treatment
plant. The disposal charge now amounts to
$7.75 per 1000 gallons of waste witha
minimum charge of $12.00 -a fee which covers
only a portion of the actual cost for treating the
waste. To allow the District to recover the full
cost of treatment, the fee will be increased to
$107 per 1000 gallons. The disposal fee increase

comes into effect on January 1, 1996.

Most grease traps generate about 150
gallons of liquid waste. At this volume, the
current cost is $12.00 (the minimum charge) for
disposal. With the new fee, you should pay
$16.05 - an increase of $4.05 for servicing a

grease trap of this size.
