Tax man tends a hand

» Each year, volunteers give their
time and energy to provide free tax
assistance ‘to senior citizens, low
income families, new Canadians
and the physically and mentally
challenged.

The Revenue Canada Volunteer
Program works on the community
level through tax offices’ across
Canada. These offices hold training
sessions for the volunteers at the
beginning of every tax filing season.

Between Feb. 6 and March 10,

the Vancouver tax services office
will provide a one-day training ses-
sion for members of volunteer asso-
ciations, community organizations
and individuals interested ia volun-
teering their time to assist others.
“The volunteers don’t emerge
lax experts, but they do become

familiar with the fundamentals of

completing a tax return.” said a
Revenue Canada spokesperson.

Housing Grant Awarded

The Canadian Mortgage and
Mfousing Corporation has awarded
the District of North’ Vancouver
$9,000 to “modify city guidelines
and develop information packages
regarding accessory apartments to
facilitate the implementation of the
City’s accessory apartment policy.”
