Divers missing
THE SEARCH continued Friday for (vo divers who
went missing in Howe Sound near Gibsons during a
training dive by the ship's company of HMCS
Saskatchewan,

Licutenant Denise LaViolette of the Canadian Forces
public affairs office said the the divers were reported
missing at 5:17 p.m. on Thursday. Acting Sub-Lt. Nicole

Patricia Schiele, 22, and Able Seaman Sandy Jacob
Schreurs, 21, were diving with a third person, w ho resur='
faced. .

As of Friday, a number of vessels. including HMCS
Saskatchewan and HMCS Restigouche as well as hover-

*” craft, RCMP boats and local boaters, continued to search
the waters between Gibsons and Keats Island for the
missing man and woman.

“We're still optimistic,” said LaViolette from the
Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria, “The search is

Scuba search

A SCUBA diver flagged down a West. Vancouver Police
“car in Whytecliff Park on Feb. 12 after his diving partner
apparently vanished inthe water. ~ ‘
A class of divers and their instructor, who also hap-
pened to be.in the park, helped police make a ground
search for the man, while the Coast Guard vessel Osprey
made its way to the area.
“As ‘the Osprey approached the site, 36-year-old Jim
Russel of Surrey was found uninjured on the rocky. cliffs
on the west side of the park. ‘He was checked and
~reledsed af the scene. i. :

place is deemed necessary.

land acquisitions in question are

Walk, a playing field and overflow
parking for B.C. Ferries.

development arm of the BC Rail
Crown corporation, has announced
its intention of terminating the
Jease of the lands to the municipali-
ty and developing 40, lots, ,

Earlier this month BC Rail went
to B.C. Supreme Court in a bid to
declare a West Vancouver zoning .
bylaw amendment null and void,

The company argues the change
would make the land unsubdivid-
able.
