West Vancouver Capilano MEA Jeremy Dalton said the Squamish Nation is invalved in developing a document that vill be distributed te companies interested in bidding on the Lions Gate upgrade. Dalton added he presumes the Squamish Nation will also submit its own bridge construction plan. Thar, he said, is unfair to oth- ers who may want to join the Lions Gate construction derby. “These guys have the inside track,” said Dalton of the Squamish Nation. “ think that is clearly unfair and is a contlict of interest.” In April, the provincial gov- ernment invited the Squamish Nation to join municipal repre- sentatives to help develop a pro- posil call and select a winning ridge proposal. Earlier, the Squamish Nation, Canron Construction and SNC Lavatin submitted a bridge pro- posal calling for a two-lane sus- pension bridge to be built paral- lel to the Lions Gate. But Lions Gate Bridge pro- ject communications manager John Doyle said he has no indi- ations that any of the “major participants,” including — the Squamish Nation, will come tor- ward with a proposal under the new process announced in April. “Ie’s unlikely that ifany of the Major participants, was involved in pursuing the job that they could continue in the consulta- tive process or in the evaluative process,” he said. Shore By Robert Galster News Reporter robert@nsnews.com A surprise lightning storm that hit the North Shore on Wednesday morning provided a dramatic show for its many spectators, but it wreaked havoc on the lives of local emergency crews scram- bling to answer a deluge of calls. Scurrying crews scrambled from one call to another in what turned out to be mostly false alarms. No injuries were reported, but North Shore fire departments were forced to respond to 51 cally over the course of the three-hour starm. North Vancouver RCMP spokesman Const. ‘Tom Seaman said two minor trafic mishaps occurred during the storm as a result of fallen trees. One incident involved a tree hitting a south: bound vehicle on Lynn Valley Road which tem- porarily closed the street. The storm knocked power out all over the North Shore.
