Former Seattle Seahawk Bobby Joe Edmonds (left) was the star of his team, but Phil Ens and his team of policemen beat out Edmonds and his team 110-86. But each time he indicated that the court’s condition was intertfer- ing with his game (the average was one divot per point, audience members booed, hissed and yelled “cry-baby"' and “‘publicity monger.”’ (Mind you, the Austrians weren't exactly paragons of gentility — in addition to cade violations for verbal abuse, their spitting and nose-clearing onto the court was revolting.) Several people brought their cellular phones with them, one annoying woman appointed herself Connell’s personal cheerleader, another yelled technical advice, one horrid man cracked jokes about the referee's virility and another cretin spouted Aryan innuendo. As for the tennis, Connell and Glen Michibata were defeated by Antonitsch and Thomas Buchmayer in doubles. Although Michibata had cheered up by the end of the tournament, at the press conference he took the blame for his team’s loss, saying that he failed to support Connell. And by the time the final singles match came around, Connell was clearly exhausted and distracted, and, although he says he never looks back and over-analyzes his losses, the poor (handsome) guy was really depressed afterward. As for Antonitsch, Austrian teant members said their boy, who has a history of “choking” during deciding matches, played his best tennis ever. Well, that house belonged to Hotel Van- couver catering director Daniel Delange, his two daughters and their pooch (saved by the postman). Well, the family lost everything so a party was held at the Trade and Convention Centre recently to help replace Daniel's stuf.
