Capilano soccer Blues set record team floss THE CAPILANO Blues soccer team has had the dubious honor of setting three team records over the past two weeks. First they lost their first league in two years to BCIT over the Thanksgiving weekend and then they lost to Trinity Western Uni- versity for the first time since TWU entered the league. In addition, this is the first time the Blues have lost two consecutive league games since 19890. Nevertheless, coach Joc Iacobellis says the Blues, presently ranked sixth in the Canadian Col- leges Athletic Association, were sitting in this spot at the same time last year and still went on to win the national championship. Of Friday's game, Ilacobellis said, ‘‘We were really disap- pointed. We actually controlled 80 per cent of the play. However, we weren’t able to capitalize on our scoring.”’ Cap’s lone goal was gleaned by midfielder Leone Corra. VW e were really disappointed. We actually controlied 80 per cent of the play. However, we weren't able to capitalize on our scoring.”’ — Blue soccer coach Joe lacobellis RASA SE, lacobellis said Trinity’s weapons included heavy defense and a for- midable centre forward, Neil Turner, who accounted for all three goals for the visiting team from Langley. lacobellis added that Trinity could be considered a university team because they have four years eligibility versus Cap’s two years. However, the freshman nature of the Blues’ roster didn’t hinder the Blues’ performance earlier this season. In September, the Blues shut out both the University of Puget Sound and the University of Alberta in the eight-team Interna- tional Cup held on the North Shore. On Sunday, the Blues’ fortunes turned as they edged out Van- couver Community College 1-0, with a goal by midfielder Andy Viachos on a throw-in from John MacDonald. The win enables the Blues to re- tain their present league standing. This weekend the Blues will be on the road to Victoria tc play Royal Roads Military College, a game they need to earn a play-off berth.
