PAGE 17 oon tri WHAT WOULD your father do if he were late for work and discovered that he was out of clean underwear? Would he: 1) wash a pair or 2) wear a dirty pair? Such is the type of question that was asked of North Vancouver’s McLeod family when mom, dad and two daughters appeared on the BCTV-taped and -aired game show 2nd Honeymoon. By matching answers with their parents, daughters Michelle, 12, and Kymberley, 10, won their parents a trip to Dublin, Ireland, for — as the show puts it — a se- cond honeymoon. “You have to answer honestly, (because) it’s amazing how much your children know about you,”’ says mom Leanne McLeod, 45, a North Vancouver day-care super- visor. “What the children do is drag out old stories, which can be amusing and give insight into what . kind of family you are.”’ A creation of game show veterans Wink Martindale and Jerry Gilden, 2nd Honeymoon is carried on television stations from Vancouver to Toronto and on the CBN Cable Network in the United States, with family secrets being blurted out across the airwaves from coast to coast. For Michelle, the toughest ques- tion was when she had to figure out how many times her dad (Doug, 43) had kissed her mom since they came to the station’s Burnaby studio. “We hadn't really been paying attention because we were looking around,”’ she remembers with a “T think it was just luck that I said four.’’ ; During a camping trip last summer, the parents secretly warmed up their daughters’ game show skills prior to 2nd Honey- moon taping. Questions regarding dad’s underwear troubles and other ‘what ifs’ are designed to bring out humorous answers and bare the family soul in the name of fun and second honeymoons. Local contestant coordinator Andrew Van Slee describes 2nd Honeymoon as a show “where kids can do something nice for their parents.’ But, as he points out, while the kids do not actually win anything, they are not left out of the deal — they get ‘‘time away from their parents.’’ “Peaple love it and have been writing letters,’’ Van Slee, a West Vancouver resident, says of the show. When the McLeods go to Dublin, likely this summer, Michelle and Kymberley will be at a horse camp in the interior, probably remembering that being able to predict their parents’ behavior made the trip possible. And just what would your dad do about the aforementioned underwear difficulty. Would he 3) not wear any at all or 4) wear a pair of your mother’s? On the show, at least, a correct answer could wina second honeymoon. Such a question could be asked Monday at the season’s"final tap: ing of the program..
