Sugar does not cause cancer, How can we change our diets to reduce the risk of developing cancer? - Use minimal amounts of visible fats, including butter, margarine, oil, mayonnaise, heavy cream, bacon and so on. - Limit intake of foods containing large amounts of fat including ice cream, cream soups, nuts and seeds, pastries, cakes, chocolates. Save these for special treats! - Try to avoid barbequing meats. If you do barbeque, try to keep the smoke off the meat. - Limit intake of cured meats containing nitrites such as ham, bacon and so on. When they are eaten, in- clude a source of vitamin C with the meal. - Make sure your diet in- cludes a daily source of vitamin A (found in most yellow or orange fruits and vegetables); vitamin C (found in citrus products, green pepper and strawber- ries) and three or more serv- ings of dietary fibre (found in whole grains and fruits), - Consume alcohol in strict moderation. - Eat a variety of healthy foods daily. Remember that a diet or way of eating must be en- joyable as well as healthy. Don’t cut anything out, just cut down! Evaluate your current intake of fat and fibre and try to improve your eating habits as much as you can on a monthly basis until you’re adjusted. The use of supp!ements to ensure an adequate intake of vitamins A and C is not recommended. Eat the foods containing these nutrients. A good rule of thumb to remember is more is not necessarily better, more can be harmful. Moderation is the key.
