Kazuyoshi Akiyama will con- duct the orchestra in perfor- mances of Mbozart’s Don Giovanni Overture and the Shostakovich Symphony No. 9. A native of Seattle, Cole studied at Yale University North Shore News and the Juilliard School and has worked with teachers in- cluding Bernard Shapiro, Symphony, and Robert Bloom, principal oboe of the NBC Orchestra under Toscanini. Cole was second oboe for the Seattle Sym- phony for the ’71 and ’72 seasons, and between 1970 ‘and 1975 was principal oboe for orchestras including the American Youth Orchestra, the Berkshire Music Centre Orchestra, the Yale Sym- phony Orchestra, the Juilliard Concert Orchestra and the Aspen Chamber Orchestra. Cole has maintained an ac- stage for concerts tive schedule m chamber music and has participated in numerous summer festivals Festival, Marlboro Music Festival and the Tanglewood Festival, where he won a Chamber Music Award in 1974. In the course of his career he has performed with many of the world’s best known conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Sergiu Comissiona, Colin Davis, Sixten Ehrling, Seiji Ozawa, Alexander Schneider, William Steinberg and Michael Tilson Thomas. In 1977 Cole became prin- cipal oboe for the CBC Van- couver Chamber Orchestra.
