PUSS IN Boots, First Impressions Theatre's pantomime production, stars Kay Huang (pic-
tured). A classic pantomime in the British tradition, Puss in Boots demands tots of participa-
tion from the audience. Singing, dancing and spirited dialogue are all part of the play which
runs December 7 to 31 at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday (except Christmas Eve) with 3
p.m. matinees Saturdays, Sundays and Boxing Day.

THIS CHRISTMAS season,
North Vancouver audiences
are in for a real treat — pan-
tomime! For those of you
who have not yet had the
pleasure of witnessing a
traditional English pan-
tomime, let me assure you
that silent, Marcel Marceau-
type mime has very little to
do with it. On the contrary,
the livelier and noisier, the
better.

English pantomime is a
specific form of folk enter-
tainment that grew out of the
Commedia dell’ Arte and the
Hariequinades of the 1800's.
It includes elements of com-
edy, drama, music hall acts,
circus, ballet and even pop
music. The plot is taken from
a traditional fairy tale or
children’s story.

This December, First Im-
pressions Theatre will present
“*Puss in Boots’’ at Presenta-
tion House, and Deep Cove
Stage will be performing
**Aladdin and the Lamp’’ at
the Hall in Deep Cove, both
time-honoured pantomime
scripts.

However, in panto, the
well-known stones of Puss
and Aladdin will be con-
tinually interrupted by varie-
ty routines, popular or
onginal songs, and wickedly
Satirical topical jokes.
