INDUSTRIES LOCATED in Maplewood should not be forced to move in the future even if they don’t conform to North Vancouver District's official community plan for the area, council heard Monday. Gary Letcher, spokesman for Nova Lumber, told the public hearing that although Nova supports Maplewood's community plan, they disagree with the proposal's wording since it could jeopardize Nova’'s future in the area. He said Nova would like to see an amendment added which would permit “existing log sorting and storage activities” to operate unaffected in Maplewood as Nova has been doing for 30 years. Letcher also wanted an area zoned in the plan medium industrial to be amended with ai clause allowing “land use _per- mitting manufacturing and storage” Letcher said if the plan is not amended 1 threatens to “destroy mghts enjoyed by Nova for years” Maplewood's community plan outlines District's social, economic and en- vironmental goals for future land use in the region An ongoing controversy among the industnmes in Maplewood has been raging since the plan first was made public in carly 1982.
