Robert Walker, currently deputy fire chief of Calgary Fire Department, takes over from District Fire Chief Bob McDenald. McDonald, who is 49, has been with the department for 29 years. He has been fire chief for the past 20 years and at the time of his ap- pointment was Canada’s youngest ever fire chief. McDonald gives poor health as his reason for retiring two years early.
