and there you are. The first
step is a restaurant, the
Salmon Bake, where fresh
barbequed salmon is sizzling
on the grill.

First thing I spotted was
one of our dining stewards
from the: ship, digging into a
big plate of salmon, salad,
beans and sourdough. He
looked a little guilty but
mentioned that the salmon is
the best in Alaska.

Creek Street was, up until
1954, the infamous red-light
district of Ketchikan. It
boasts a boardwalk on stilts
over the creek and an over-
grown trail behind, suitably
named “Husband's Walk.”

three handicraft shops and
galleries,_all worth a visit. I
nearly got hooked on some
large cedar carvings of
animals but since the things
weighed up from 40 pounds
and Brian was still sulking
down at the souvenir stands 1.

has a unique facility, made
out of an old hot-water tank

and a pipe to the creek.

One of the shops on the
boardwalk of Creek Street is
an art. gallery. ‘The
Gathering.” It's interesting,
even though the prices
aren't. The other gallery I
visited (Scanlon’s) has some
good stuff but the prices are
about the same.

He’s walking for peace

Kuman Chatterjee went out
for a walk seven years ago.
Now, 56 countries and 22
pairs of walking shoes later,

Chatterjee, 26, a former
machinist from Calcutta,
