Body recovered THE BODY of a missing skier presumed killed in a December avalanche ai Cypress Bowl in West Vancouver was recovered on Wednesday, May 26. William Leboe, 34, of Westbank near Kelowna, had been skiing out-of-bounds with a friend when both men were swept away on Saturday, Dec. 19. Leboe’s companion, 31-year-old Earl Kurz, of Co- quitlam, managed to work himself out of the snow mound. He was later found by a North Vancouver man who was cross-country skiing in (he aren. North Shore Rescue Team members and other rescue teams spent two days searching for Leboe in December. With sufer conditions in the steep, avalanche-prone terrain, North Shore Rescue Team members recently conducted several searches for the missing skier, said Ross Peterson, North and West Vancouver Emergency Program coordinator. Leboe’:: body was eventually found at 8 a.m. in a steep guiiy cust of Mount Strachan, The area is known as Australian Gully, The search party hiked in to secure the body, which was later removed by an RCMP helicopter. Mian rescued THE NORTH Shore Rescue Team was cailed to the banks of the Capilano River near the Trans-Canada Highway early Thursday aflernoon, May 27, to help a North Vancouver man. The 41-year-old man, described by police as “having emotional difficulties,’ was located near the river at 5:30 p.m., according to 2: North Shore Rescue Team spokesman.
