Carol ship event called a success Dear Editor: The Carol Ship nights of Dec. 15 at Waterfront Park and Dee. 16 at Cates Park and Panorama Park were a resounding success. Waterfront Park had an atten- dance of well over 2,500 people, as did Panorama Park. $1,467 was collected for the Christmas Bureau fund, also many cartons of non- perishable goods which will cer- tainly help the people in need on the North Shore. There was a great community spirit with North Vancouver City staff volunteering their time; choirs singing and getting people into the Christmas spirit: our local newspaper, the North Shore News, providing song sheets and helping to promote the event. Also, thanks to the following merchants for their generous donations of coffee, hot chocolate, cookies and donuts: Save-On-Foods (Park & Tilford) Edgemont Super Valu Stong's Market London Drugs (Lonsdale) Queensbury Market Lonsdale Rental! Neates Coffee McDonalds Restaurant It is very heartwarming to know that many groups participate in our Carol Ship night to make it such a successful evening. Cloutier outlined two near- tragedies in the Dec. 13 Mailbox column. In both cases, the mentioned vehicles had their brakes fai] while travelling down 2!st Street in West Vancouver. The letter’s, author Suggested 2ist should be re- directed as one-way uphill, or have “‘heavy traffic’? use the more “‘suitable’’ 22nd Street. Is it really up to the District of West Vancouver to re-design the municipality’s steep roads, of which there are many, just because some pinheads neglect to have - their brakes serviced? Also, P. Cloutier alluded that the cause of these mishaps was that the vehicles were heavy, one being a truck and the other being a fully-occupied car. Oh my, how misguided. The issue here is mandatory vehicle inspection, which the pro- vincial government should bring back immediately.
