Tomoso Kiss, 18, visiting the Vancouver area with his family from Budapest, Hungary, fell approximately 40 feet while climbing down ie the river near the pool. According to North Vancouver District Fire Department assis- tant chief Bruce Ramsay, Kiss slipped, feil and fractured an ankle. He suffered lacerations to his other ankle and scalp lacerations. Kiss landed in the creek and was pulled unconscious and bleeding from the water by swimmers nearby. A firefighter and an ambulasce crew member were lowered down to assist the youth, who was pulled out on a stretcher and trens- ported to Lions Gate Hospital. On Monday, rescue crews seturned to 90-foot pool, after a Van- couver man injured himself and was trapped on a ledge beside the pool. Ramsay said the man wrenched his back after swimming over the falls and inte the pool. The current dragged him under, but he managed to climb out to safety. A firefighter rappelled 136 feet down a cliff to reach the man, who was shaken by the incident. Monday's rescue call was the sixth to the canyon this year. Said Ramsay: ‘They like to go for a swim and shoot over the falls. They think it’s great fun, but it’s not the safest thing to do. There's 4H a very strong current in 99-foot pool.” | Local firefighter | Passes away NORTH VANCOUVER District Fire Department Lieutenant Ken Flezaing passed away Aug. 1 after succumbing to cancer. Mr. Fleming, 39, served as a firefighter for eight years and as an inspector in the department's fire prevention office for seven years. During his time as a fire prevention officer, Mr.- Fleming was active teaching fire safety tips to North Vancouver School District children through the Mr. Do Bee program. Appearing before North Vancouver provincial Judge J.B. | Paradis cn Aug. 3, Carl Robert Hunter was ordered to serve his jail sentence on seven successive weckends, starting Aug. 18.
