Peter Drinovz was originally charged with two counts of driving while prohibited in connection with Jan. 24 and Feb. 18 incidents in West Vancouver in which he allegedly drove while prohibited. Appearing before Judge R.D. Grandison, Drinovz pleaded guilty to the first count. The Crown subsequently entered a stay of proceedings in the se- cond charge. In addition to the jail sentence and fine, Drinovz was prohibited from driving for another year. / / f / Health projects get funding A TOTAL of $70,000 from the provincial lottery fund has been allocated recently to two North Shore-based health projects. The money is part of an additional $2,287,589 in lottery funds distributed to help finance 79 health research projects around the province. Of the $70,000 allotted to North Shore projects, $35,000 will go to EVS Consultants of North Vancouver. for an investigation of bacteriological water quality problems using the coliform equivalent test. The remaining $35,000 will help finance a study of the impact visitors have on the well-being of elderly, long-term care patients. The project is a combined effort of Dr. Shirley Baker-Thomas of Lions Gate Hospital and Dr. Stephen Milstein and Dr. Gloria Gutman of SFU’s Gerontology Research Centre. The grants are awarded based on recommendations by the Scientific Advisory Committee of the B.C. Health Care Research Foundation. Hiking trails be improved CHUCK COOK, MP for North Vancouver-Burnaby, and Mary Collins, MP for Capilano, recently announced funding under Section 38 of the Unemployment Insurance Act for the Federation of Moun- tain Clubs of B.C. to improve hik- ing trails on the North Shore. The federal government will be contributing $26,554 towards the improvement of trails from Deep Cove through North and West Vancouver up Howe Sound to Squamish. The project will enhance public safety, provide for improved access to various scenic locales, and enhance the ability of search and rescue and other opera- tions in these areas. Project workers will be identify- ing trails requiring improved marking and signage before determining the number, size and type of signs required. Trails will then be marked or blazed with fluorescent markers. Brush clearing, general cleanup and repair tasks are also planned. Federal assistance to this organization under Section 38 of the Unemployment Insurance Act will provide employment for four people for a total of 56 weeks. Robert Balfour Logan was originally charged with mischief and wilfully setting fire to personal property for fraudulent purposes in connection with June 11 incidents in which a 1974 Jensen Intercep- tor Coupe, owned by Westminster Credit Union, was alleged to have been set on fire. Appearing before Judge J.B. Paradis, Logan pleaded guilty to the mischief charge and was sentenced to three months in jail. ; The Crown entered a stay of proceedings in the other charge. Three other Lower Mainland residents are also charged jointly with Logan with mischief in connection with the same incident.
