18 - Friday, September 26, 1986 - North Shore News Worth Shore church celebrates sod turning THE OLD North Van High vocational shop building will soon go under the wrecking ball to make way for the new North Shore Alliance Church. A sou turning for the new church will be celebrated at an outdoor tent meeting Sunday, Sept. 28 at I! a.m., followed by a pot luck funch. The church site is located in the 23rd and St. Georges neighborhood. Since selling their original building in West Van- couver to the Unitarian Chureh, the North Shore Alliance Church has been meeting in rented facilities for just over four years — first in the Internalional Plaza Hotel, and for the last three years in the North Van Recreation Centre's, Capilano Roou. The new church facility will be designed with fan- shaped seating for approximately 400 people. Con- struction is to begin in early October. Plaza hosts art show NORTH VANCOUVER art lovers are invited to a two-day showing of works by Lower Mainland artists Sept. 27-28 at the International Plaza Hotel. The show, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., will feature about 100 paintings from the Coast Watercolour Group. On display will be Canadian Federation of Artists members Rick McDiarmid, Lindae Thomas, Olwyn Geeling, Marie Beaudoin, Kathy Staples, Myra Hammond and Bonny Roberts.
