on the way to.a van fire.

The first pumper headed
to 401 and Westview where a
1978 GMC flatdeck truck
was on fire. The driver of
the vehicle had pulled over
after noticing smoke. As the
truck stopped, the cab filled
with smoke and the driver
and passenger ran from the
truck.

City firefighters extin-
guished the fire which caus-
ed extensive damage. The
fire burned through the

firewall into the cab of the
truck, melted the dashboard
on the driver’s side, cracked
the windshield and oxidized
the paint on the hood. In
addition, there were heavy
smoke stains in the cab. Fire
officials believe the fire may
have been caused by leaking
hydraulic fuel being ignited.

The truck, owned by Car-
doso Contracting of Surrey,
was driven by Dave Pavlas.

The van, owned and

driven by Dan Christie, had
caught fire when Christie
tryed pouring gas into the
carburetor to start the
engine. .
Fire officials say the ac-
cumulation of gas fumes ap-
parently ignited when the
engine finally sparked.

The van had ‘damage in
the engine compartment and
to the front seats. There
were no injuries.
