Gather up the kids and head down to the village — Edgernont Village Days is coming your way Saturday, June 8. Everyone loves a party. And the fun and excitement that will be had at the first anniver- sary of Edgemont Village’s revitalization program is no exception, Last year the inauguration of the Jocal improvement and beautification scheme was ex- tremely successful, said Ron Statham, president of Edge- mont Merchants’ Association. The minister of municipal affairs, Bill Ritchie, came for the opening ceremonies, as well as local MLA Angus Ree. members of the North Van- couver council and the mayor were there. “I think it is going to be twice the program it was last year,” says Hollyburn Lumber owner, RonStatham. The day kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with a pancake breakfast put on by West Vancouver's Kiwanis Club. And food organizer Paul Stuart of Edge- mont Cars & Gifts confidently says if the whole Highlands came down for breakfast they would be able to serve them. PANCAKES “A bit of an exaggeration,” he says, “but we know what we're doing because we have done this many times at the Sea Festival.” Besides flap jacks there will be other munchies like pop- corn, candy floss, dixie cup ice cream, hot dogs and soda pop to get everyone in the “carnival atmosphere”. And there will be miles of smiles as 8,000 people are ex- pected to turn out to watch the parade commencing at 11 ‘Vera Kennedy Paws & Claws a.m. ‘It's shaping up bigger and better than last year,” says co-ordinator Vera Kennedy. Clowns, pennyfarthing cyclists, and the Pink Panther strike again. But there are many added attractions this year, including the North Van- couver Youth band and Hand- sworth High School band, the Rangerettes, Dr. Randy Research from Lion's Gate Hospital and several others. Squeals of laughter, wide- eyed stares, fits of giggles are the sounds you will hear around the Maplewood Farms Petting Zoo. Although children should never pick up the animals, there is one hen, an Orpington breed named Henrietta, which loves to be picked up, says Maplewood Farms manager April Johnston. OATS Also coming along for the fun is Jessica, a pygmy goat, either Ally or But-ba which are angora goats, an unnamed three-week-old baby goat, two more chickens and six rabbits. Besides the sidewalk displays and sales. there are plenty of free things to do, especially for the kids. . Clowns will be handing out free helium balloons. Face painting. a favorite attraction, is also free. The kids can par- ticipate in the Bicycle Parade and have a chance to win free passes on the Grouse Mt. Jeanne Nevenschwander Village Chalet Skyride. And there will be ¢ pony rides and stagecoach rides at no charge. BELLY DANCING One of the highlights of the day will be the cake-cutting ceremony. Mayor Marilyn Baker has been invited to do the honors about two o'clock. At centre stage, there will be «: lots happening too. Belly dan- cing. Square dancing by the Village Squares and the Swing- ing Singles. Harmonizing by the Barbershop Chorus and : the Dogwood chapter of the Sweet Adelines.
