Walking into one of their
practices is like walking into
a rapid-fire interrogation as
teacher lan de Groot barks
out who, what, when, where
questions and the four stut-
ter eagerly to get the right
answer out first. Sometimes
there is an embarrassed
pause as they alf look at the
floor and each other if no
one knows the answer.

“Come on, these are
scramble questions — we’ve
got to eet these right,’’ says
de Groct. Scramble is where
one question, successfully
answered, ieads to a series of
questions which. only’ the
team who answered the ini-
tial question correctly can
try.

Sutherland has played
Reach for the Top for the
five years de Groot has been
with the school, but this is
their stellar year as they won
both district and zone
