By NEWS STAFF As well as dealing with the impact of a new, rush-hour fare zone system, West Van- couver commuters will see non-rush-hour fares jump to 85 cents from the current 55 cents. The new fare structure was approved by the Vancouver Regional Transit Committee Friday. Under the new plan, the North Shore will be one of three zones in the Greater Vancouver area. During peak hours — defined as the time before 9:30 p.m. and between 3:30 and 6 p.m., Mondays. to Fridays — adult bus ridets will pay 85 cents for travel in one zone, $I for two zones and $1.25 for three zones. In a notice of motion, Segal requested that the District ask staff to prepare a report to restrict smoking in public places. The basic fares for students, seniors and children will rise to 45 cents from 30 cents while rush-hour fares go to 55 cents for two zones and 65 cents for three zones. The new fare plan will also see changes to the transfer system and to FareCard charges. Transfers, which previous- ly were good for travel in any direction during a 90-minute period, will now only be good for travel in one direction for 90 minutes.
