At the end of Ahi Drive is a new “Time-Share” development which I avoided with a vengeance. The other highway carries on past the junction and eventually brings you to Hilo, and all around the island. That's the Kuakim Highway. Between the two roads are lots of housing subdivisions and resort hotels. There are very few cross-streets between the two - three that I found are Hualaiai Drive (close to downtown, drifter Restaurant), Walua Road that angles up from the imtersection beside the Kona Hilton on Alii Drive, and the one at the end by the time share junk. The map says there’s another but I haven't found it yet. If you're going to visit the City of Refuge, you want to get on Kuakini. BUT: Watch the road on your mght just past tthe Kealakekua Grass Shack. Don't waste your time shopping at the Shack - it’s nothing to write home about. The next right is Napoopoo Road - and it’s not well marked. This will lead you to the City of Refuge by way of the Kona Coffee Mill and Museum (stop for free coffee and a look at the mill) and on past that. an in- tersection. Right will take you to the Captain Cook Monument and a_ lovely beach. Left will take you to the City of Refuge along an awful one-way road. Don't go over 20 mph and keep an eve open for on- coming traffic. One of you will have to pull over Also watch for mongooses! They also have a pottery out back that you can visit in the daytime and they sell a lot of fired greenware in a shop that servesyas the reception area for the restaurant. Got into a nice conversation with a young couple (complete with baby) about cats: Mutual affair’ They had treuble with their “cat door” because the baby kept following their cats outside. We all joked about kids, cats and = other idiosyncracies. Imagine our suprise when the cook from the Spindrifter marched out of the kitchen, checked our orders and guaranteed us the best cuts of meat in the house. You guessed! Our friend from the bookshop. Good meal. Excellent service. KONA RANCH HOUSE: The breakfasts are excellent. A study of the menu for the other meals made us think This gift’s DALLAS (UPI)- For the couple with everything, Neiman-Marcus this year is suggesting a Christmas present that can serve the guests, take out the trash, water the plants, caddy at the putting green and walk the dog. The present is a robot known as “ComRo I” and the store is offering a basic version for $15,000, battenes included. “You can choose from two models to suite your lifestyle.” the Dallas-based store suggests in its Christmas catalogue released Wednesday. “The standard ComRo I includes spotlight and running lights, wireless telephone. smoke alarm. vacuum, carpet THE GREATEST INVENTION SINCE THE DISHWASHER. that this is a winner.
