Carson bball girls strike out with blackouts “AND THEN the lights went out,’ is the punch line for too many stories about Carson Graham's senior girls’ basketball team this season. The Eagles, coached by Ray Marshall and Rob Watson, was playing its first exhibition game of the season at Maple Ridge Nov. 21 when the lights went out at halftime and the game was abandoned. Then Dec. 17, the team had a 7 p.m. practice set for its key league game at West Vancouver the following night. At 7:20 p.m., the power went out and although it came on briefly a few minutes later, the prac- tice could not continue. The Carson coaches scheduled a 20-minute walk-through after school on Dec. [8 to go over some strategies to use against West Van. One minute before school ended, the power failed again and the walk- through had to be cancelled. That night at West Vancouver, the Eagles were ahead 2-0 with 1:14 played in the first quarter when the lights went out; once again everybody had to go home. Two days later, Carson Graham’s league game with visiting Howe Sound was postponed because of Squamish highway conditions. But at least the lights didn’t go out.
