NORTH SHORE high school
wrestling squads dominated
the Capilano Invitational, held
at Carson Graham secondary
last weekend.

The Carson Graham senior
boys’ team finished first in the
overall standings with 130 points.
Their next closest competition was
Centennia), the number three-
ranked team in the province, with
72 points. .

The victory by the Eagle squad,

the defending provincial champi-

ons, moved them into the fifth place
on the B.C. rankings.

Carson wrestler Ken Lee, win-
ner of the 54 kg class, was named
outstanding senior wrestler.

The big story of the tournament
was the showing by the Balmoral
girls’ squad, who finished in first
place with 94 points.

The team, currently ranked num-
ber one in the province, won the
Island Invitational earlier in the sea-
son. Coached by SFU alumnist Tan
MacDonald, the team has proven
that it will be tough to beat in
Victoria in late February — the site
of the B.C. championships.

Carson's junior girls’ team fin-
ished fifth, while Eagle wrestler
Elien Ashdown was named out-
standing wrestler for her first-place
finish in the 60 ke division.
