workers in New York City
took to the streets to protest
dangerous working conditions
and fow wages in the textile
industry.

Three years later, the inter-
national community — pro-
claimed March 8 International
Women's Day. In Canada, it is
a day to celebrate women’s
achievements and reflect on
the challenges still to be over-
come.

The very fact that there is
an International Women’s Day
each year indicates how far
women’s rights have come
