At) 11:30) p.m. that evening, the 20-year-old was _ hit by a dark, late-model Land Rover as. she was walking across St. George’s Avenue at the corner of 17th Street. The driver took off, leav- . ing Brady and a friend ying i in _the road. Amale friend walking with the pair managed to step out of the way in time to avoid getting hit. Brady’s friend Jennifer suf- fered a knee injury and con- cussion, but “the brunt of it hit Jaclyn,” says her father Gary. “It threw her 25 feet.” North Vancouver RCMP officers were on the scene almost immediately, and Jaclyn and Jennifer were transported to Lions Gate Hospital. “I don’t really remember anything from that night,” says Jaclyn. “It all happened so quickly.” After suffering from bro- ken bones, concussion, bruis- es, and Jacerations, Jaclyn is still in a wheelchair with a severe knee injury. She has “a brace on her leg, a pin in her ankle, and a pin in her knee,” according to Gary Brady. “It’s not the Breatest,” Jaclyn says. “1 can’t do any- thing | could do before. tm very dependent cn peuple. I was supposed to be zoing on to crutches but + hurts, so I have te gets betrer.~ Before her accident, Jaclyn had been looking for a job. With a good sjx months of physiotherapy ahead of her, she’s had to put that on hold for now. [ think people tend to go a little too fast.” The Bradys are hoping that the driver of the Land Rover will come forward and confess to his or her role in the acci- dent. “I don’t know if I want to meet them face-to-face,” says Jaclyn, “but I want to know who it was. Pm sure we're probably on their minds. They're very lucky they didn’t kill me.
