New Horizons, the North Shore Arts Commission’s third annual arts symposium takes place tomorrow, Feb. 5, at Lucas Centre, 2132 Hamilton St. in North Vancouver. If pre-registration is any indication, artists are starved for practical advice on how to turn their artistry into a viable business. Two work- shops — Marketing for Arusts: Creating Your Day Job with speaker Diane Burroughes and The Enterprising Artist: Creating Sustainable Income with Judi Piggott — are completely sold ont. Stil open for registration are: Artists on the Information Superhighway (10 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.), Acting and Directing: A Film Industry Perspective (10 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.)}, Public Art Opportunities for Local Artists (2:15 p.m.) and A Checklist for Cultural Tourism: Assessing Your. Market Readiness (2:15 p.m.). Registration is free for North Vancouver City and District residents and $15 for non-residents. The symposium begins at 9 a.m. with a keynote address, “Public Art Takes Centre Stage in North Vancouver,” by Leesa Strimbicki and Marina Papais. From 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 .m., the arts commission’s oard of directors will be on hand to answer questions and solicit feedback. Also part of the event is an arts market Sunday, 11 to 4 p.m., at the newly opened Artist Tree Sridios, 106 W. Ist St. in North Van.
