To help them reach their goals, the BC Lung Association has released its summary of the various methods of quitting. They've also identified the three stages of successfully quitting. These are prepara- ton, actual quitting and stay- ing quit. All three are crucial to a successful attempt. Here is 3 rundown of the various methods as identified by the association. BS Acupuncture — Originat- ing in China, this method involves the use of needles and _staple-like attachments around the car and wrist. Cost: $60-$150 for three to five sessions. @ Hypnosis — While gener- ally self-explanatory, hypnosis may include direct sugges- tions to change, the develop- ment of an aversion to sub- stances or che use of self-hyp- nosis. The number of ses- sions varies, bur average is about four. Cost: $40-$70 per session. B® Nicotine Gum/Patches — The gum comes in 2 mg and 4 mg sizes and allows the smoker to continue taking nicotine without actually smoking. Cost: gum, $35 for 105 2 mg pieces or $65 for 105 4 mg pieces. Patches } cost approximately $5 per day. @ Mass Media Programs — These include the dissemina- tion of information using ad campaigns to urge smokers to quit. Cold Turkey Day is one such program.
