The deal reached with North Vancouver School District 44 averted a strike that would have kept approximately 17,000 stu- dents home from school, Two years ago when the Korhin oat Commission was studying the public education sector in B.C., many school boards submitted that teachers should be considered an essential service. The issue of closing down schools as a bargaining tactic affects everyone in the community. Collective bargaining is considered a funda- mental right in any democratic society. The Ministry of Transportation and Highways plans to construct an interchange at the intersection of Westview Drive and the Upper Levels Highway. The latest developments regarding the Westview Interchange highway improvement project will be featured at an open house session at Larson elemen- tary school’s gymnasiuni. The school is located at 2605 Larson in North Vancouver. The drop-in will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Ministry staf€ will be on hand to answer questions and listen to public comments about the pro- posed interchange. Once completed, the Westview interchange will alleviate the con- gestion caused by traffic controi lights installed on the highway at the intersection of Westview and the Upper Levels Highway.
