European
fashions
so green

ISPO, Europe’s sport fashion
Show in Munich, revealed a
tremendous range of trends,
themes, colors and details
throughout the collections for ca-
sual fall styles.

The burgeoning ecological wave
has reached the traditional active
wear and outer wear markets.

Colors and textures are inspired
by nature. They imitate fur,
suede, wood and stone without
being overly rustic. Prints are
wicker, marble and treebark and
kept to a minimum.

Fabrics are washed and brushed
for soft cottony hands, and fake
fur trims are the order of the day.

European designer Lhuta used
faux sheepskin to trim a soft, but-
tery microfibre jacket. Steinibronn
also used fake and real furs for
trims on sueded microfibres.

At Head Sportswear, black and
white faux pony fur hot pants
were topped with vinyl slickers
lined in the same fabric.

Checks and plaids of days gone
by are making an important
comeback — a recycled come-
back. Look to the whole gamut of
checks ranging from traditional
tartans to couture tweeds.

Checks and plaids are at their
fashion best when they are old-
looking, as if purchased in a thrift
shop.

This retro look inspires mannish
checks and plaids of the *40s and
"70s. Aged checks are good print
grounds for photorealistic prints
of harbor graphics, stencils and
heraidics.

greens with yellow accents. At
Colmar, traditional watchplaids
were used in tailored outer wear.
Jeans have pushed iticmselves
right back into the fashion
forefront as a casual or dressy
item. For the more casual look,
light colored jeans were shown
with either plastic or real leather

native touches such as old gold
embroideries or animal skin
prints.

autumn shows that understated is
‘sin’? and overdone is ‘‘out,’’ and
that fall °92 marked the departure
of the more glitzy ’80s
