8 ~ Friday, April 24, 1992 - North Shore News MAILBOX Board should release figures on Caulfeild to clear up matter An open letter to Chairman Bar- bara Howard and trustees of the West Vancouver School Board: Certain misinformation was printed in the North Shore News article of April 1 entitled ‘Board restates Caulfeild School facts and figuces.’” According to this article, the board has issued a statement that “population statistics produced in March 1992 based cn family al- lowance data continue to support the plan, indicating a large growth in the west and @ similar decline in the core area."’ However, according to Mr. Bob Overgaard who is directly respon- sible for analyzing these statistics, this is an incorrect statement and an unfortunate mistake. Mr. Overgaard stated only yesterday that his analysis of the population data is stiti incomplete. Furthermore, he stated that the data seem to support previous board conclusions that the ‘‘popu- lation remains stable in the core area."’ There is a great difference be- tween the board’s statement released to the newspaper and the actual facts. containing the actual statistics, and correct statements concerning population data and the initial capacity (not enrolment) of the proposed Cauilfeild School as compared to the capacity at Hillside. Szibbo West Vancouver NVD seeks public input on parks NORTH VANCOUVER District is asking for the public’s help in locating undeveloped and undesignated lands that are being used for park purposes. The information is being col- lected as part of the district’s ongoing parks and recreation planning efforts and will be used to incorporate trails and open-space amenities into future land development plans. The data will also be used to identify environmentally sen- sitive or historically important areas that should be preserved EE NORTH VANCOUVER DISTRICT COUNCIL and to assess existing and future community needs for park space. Maps and questionnaires have been developed to help gather the information and are on display at a variety of loca- tions throughout April. “The map is shaded to in- dicate land which is already recognized and secured for park, open space or public assembly,’’ said district plan- ning department spokesman Philip Chapman. He added that unshaded areas of the maps contain both developed and undeveloped lands owned privately by the district or other levels of 2ov- emnment. Some cf the lands may con- tribute to the park-like charac- ter of the community and may be used for park purposes even though they do not carry any official designation for park use. The maps are located at the district hall, Lynn Valley and Capilano branches of the district library, Seycove school and at the Delbrook, Karen Magnussen and Ron Andrews recreation centres unti!
