The provincial government has awarded a $170,000 grant from the provincial lottery fund to help pay for the project. Cove cultural project gets grant THE DEEP Cove Cultural Centre moved two steps closer to reality with the recent unveiling of an ar- chitect’s model of the building and the announcement of a $170,000 grant from the provincial lottery fund to help pay for the project. Whiie still in the prelimiaary design stage, the model gives an idea of how the theatre, art gallery, heritage office and meeting room will fit under one roof at the corner of Gallant Avenue and Panorama Drive. The facility will provide a per- manent home for the Deep Cove Stage, Seymour Art Gallery, First Impressions Theatre, Deep Cove and Area Heritage Association, and Deep Cove Chamber Soloists. The theatre portion will contain a 1,600 sq. ft. auditorium with seating for 150 people, storage space and a workshop. The art ‘gallery will occupy approximately 800 sq. ft., with additional collec- tion storage space and a workshop for mounting and framing works. ‘‘The preliminary design features an airy, curved lobby, linking the different areas,’’ said Simon Richards, of Cornerstone Architects. ‘Theatre or concert patrons will be able to enjoy a stroll on a terrace during intermis- sions or look out over Panorama Park.’’ Cornerstone also designed the Deep Cove Yacht Club. The project has been in the planning stage since last year. The cultural society’s building commit- tee is presently working with Cor- nerstone and North Vancouver District officials. “A lot of time and effort has gone into this project,’’ said building committee chairman Da- mian Inwood. ‘It’s very exciting CORRECTION We regret that due to limited supply, the following items may not be available at all store jocations during the “Christmas Cash Back Contest"’ flyer.
