NSAPH DIRECTOR JEFF EHLERT Worker f = =v = JEFF EHLERT’S | friends and co-workers at the North Shore Association for the Physically Handicapped (NSAPH) remember him as a man committed to con- tinuously improving the quality of life for the severe- ly handicapped on the North Shore. Mr. Ehlert, 40, died Monday. He had been the executive director of NSAPH since 1979. Although he himself lived with diabetes and muscular dystrophy, he enjoyed life to the fullest. He was hospitalized for a month and a half after the diabetes caused a kidney failure in December. Mr. Ehlert. continued to work in his capacity of executive director of the NSAPH until the end of June. Said acting executive director John Newmann, who worked closely with Mr. Ehlert since 1982: “Even though his degenerative disease progressed, he didn’t let that stop him.”’ Newmann credits Mr. Ehlert with leading che organization to its current status as an operation working with a budget exceeding $2 million annually to provide a ficapped pass Jeff Eblert wide variety of community pro- grams for the physically handi- capped as well as operating nine local group homes.
