The article Feb. 26 on page | of
North Shore News ittempts to
show both sides of the Snug Cove
sewer issue by contacting and
quoting the proponents/authorities
as well as the opponents. | com-
mend the reporter but | object to
the headlines being biased for sen-
sationalisin.

Regarding the News Viewpoint
(which | take to be an editorial)
Feb. 28 on page 6.of North Shore
News, | suggest your cditorial
writer spend some time on serious
research and discuss the issue with
knowledgeable professionals be-
fore misleading and alarming the
public and generating distrust and
ill-feeling by publishing unproven
statements. Several misleading
comments, which may well be de-
liberate but could be due to ig-
norance, appear in those articles,

First, the ‘‘sewer project for the
island’? is really limited to the
Snug Cove area — much less than
1 per cent of the island area,

Secondly, there is no plan to
“dump 20,000 gallons’’ or any
lesser amount of sewage off ‘‘Snug
Cove’? (Dorman Point) at any

There is nothing pornographic in
Dr. Ruth talking about orgasms or
masturbation, the only purveyor of
pornography in the North Shore
News is Doug Collins.

jet streams to mix well in’ the
receiving water. Thal practice is
widely used along the U.S.A. west
coast from Alaska to California
and has been monitored for years.

The main requirements are a
sharp (steep) drop near shore to
deep water and active water (i.¢.
currents for dispersal and cnough
wave action for oxygenation of
surface water). These conditions
exist off Dorman Point (Snug
Cove).

Thirdly, contrary to statements
in the first article, studies, f am in-
formed, were made from computer
models by waste management,
health, municipal affairs consul-
tants and other authorities. There
would be no ‘‘raw sewage’’ to
“contaminate the coast’’ and
pollution sweeping back into Snug
