For the North Shore Blues, player Ken Sherk topped the scor- ing with 22 points, followed by Alex Christiansen with 16 points. Women’s action saw the Blues dominate the University of Vic- toria Junior Varsity squad 75-39, leading all the way. New coach named at Blackcomb club LEADING YUGOSLAVIAN ski coach Dusan Blazic will join the coaching team at the Blackcomb Ski Ciub, the club’s alpine chair- man announced recently. Steve MaclInnes said that Blazic will join the club this winter, rounding out tie roster of head coach Dave Kerwynn and assistant Bill McCance. Holding a physical education degree from Yugoslavia and coaching certification from both Yugoslavia and France, Blazic br- ings more than J& years of interna- tional coachir.g experience to the Blackcomb club. One of the strongest | clubs in B.C., the Blackcomb club had two members selected for the B.C. Ski Team — Rya Kirkwood and Willy Raine. As well, within the Lower Mainland zone, the club has 13 of the 35 athletes named to the zone selection. ‘“‘With ithe number of top athletes increasing each year, and our club having so many of the province’s most talented skiers, the executive felt we had to expand our coaching staff and hire a coach with FIS race experience,’’ ex- plained MacInnes. Said Blackcomb Skiing Enter- prises president Hugh Smythe: “*Ski racing is an important part of our operation and with our open- ing up of year-round skiing, we expect to see many top level com- petitors and teams coming to train at Blackcomb. ‘“We recognize that experienced coaches are required to guide their progress,”’ he said.
