poster contest

NORTH SHORE Winter Club
member Janet Tupper successfully
won a poster contest designed to
promote the '87 Men's World
Curling Championship scheduled
to be held in Vancouver’s B.C.
Place Stadium March 30 to April
5,

Tupper’s mother casually men-
tioned the contest to the 16-year-
old honor roll student two days
before the contest’s November
deadline.

The young artist then fashioned
the rock and cornbroom winning
design with a totem pole
background, using acrylics on
canvas.

The subject was familiar, the
talent obvious and the end product

was worth $1,000 to Tupper and a
chance to have her work displayed
on thousands of posters promoting
the event.

The teenager also shares her
family’s passion for curling.

In February she travelled with
her North Shore Winter Club
Junior Women’s team to the
Canada Winter Games in Sidney,
Nova Scctia. Her team placed
eighth overall.

The Tupper family has a very
reputable standing in the sport of
curling going back to the year
1935. Her grandfather Gordon
Campbell won the first of five
purple hearts and the Brier in
