MORE THAN four hundred courses are included in this fall’s offerings of North Shore Continuing Education. The courses fall into five broad categories: academic upgrading. languages, career preparation, community ser- vice, and general interest. Most classes start the week of September 23. Academic up-grading courses for high schoo! com- pletion, offered during both the day and evening, are already underway. Registra- tion for these grade 11 and 12 subjects at Sutherland and West Vancouver Secondary will be accepted until September 12. Adults wishing toqualify for a grade 8, grade 10, or G.E.D. (grade 12 equivalent) certificate may enrol at any time at the Adult Learning Centre. Computer assisted learning programs at the Centre have helped adults complete their course re- quirements in record time. In the Language depart- ment, twenty-four courses will provide instruction in French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, Swedish and Ur- du/Hindu. For the first time there will be special children’s classes in Spanish and Man- darin Chinese. These children’s classes will comple- ment the After-School French classes which Continuing Education organizes for most elementary schools and the German classes which are held at the Continuing Education Centre. English Language Training is offered days and evenings in five different locations and for all levels of students. North Shore Continuing Education has been selected as the testing centre for the University of Rug hooking on show WEST VANCOUVER Community Arts Council is presenting an exhibition of early Canadian rug hooking by fibre artist Fumiko Yamamoto at Klee Wyck art gallery. While living in Canada for the past seven years, Yamamoto has studied the unique Canadian craft of rug hooking and has added a mastery of that craft to her knowledge of Japanese doll dressing, the tea ceremony, flower arranging and french embroidery. Yamamoto’s award winn- ing work combines knowl- edge of the fibre arts and reflects elements of both Canadian and Japanese cultures.
