The dimensions of such a concept cast ‘large enough shadows across the average ambitions, its logisitics would scare off average dedications. The concept of the book, says Sutherland, is based on the extremely successful MIRED IN film, West Vancouver's Cindy Bellamy and Tom Sutherland pour over the mountain of film from the daily deluge that will eventually make up ‘Vancouver: A Year In Motion’’. Begun on April 7, 1985, shooting for ‘‘ Vancouver: A Year In Motion’, will end on April 6, 1986 when it freezes in photographic pos- terity a massive fireworks extravaganza that will be part of Vancouver’s Cen- tennial celebrations. Each day between those two dates will be represented in one of the book’s 365 photographs, each photograph will represent the particular highlight of that day in the life of Van- couver. ' BEST PHOTO “It could be a celebration peculiar to that day,” says Sutherland, ‘tit could be the top news story of the day, it could be a particular facet of Vancouver that is best revealed on that day. Regardless of the subject, it will be the best photograph taken on that day.’” In order to get that best shot, Sutherland and Bellamy have assembled a willing team of what they deem to be the city’s best photographers. Each has been assigned a day or series of days or event that. best suites their particular photographic expertise. Photographers are paid a set fee of $50 per picture us- ed and provided with film for their particular assign- ment. Admitting the pay, restricted as it is to a tight budget, is not -great, Sutherland says, ‘‘the inter- national exposure that. will come from being involved in the project and the opportu- nity to use ideas they may not have the chance to use in the course of their work is worth far more to the photographers than the money.” Theme of * Vancouver: A Year In Motion’? was in- spired by the Expo 86 theme of transportation.
