In terms of dignity, it sure beats mud wrestling. On the downside, we all know that most women in the workforce today aren’t there for fulfillment, freedom or equality. They’re there because they’ve got to make up for the disaster befalling advertisers, their men in the labor market. Between 1971 and 1981, the number of families sup- ported only by the husband fell from more than a third to only 18 per cent. Women went to work mainly to take up the slack.
