Each ton of newspapers, glass, oil, clothing, old appliances or aluminum costs about $25 to take away. Those are tax dollars. Several groups, in municipalities from Van- couver to Hope, have gotten together to wage a war on waste and have proclaimed April as ‘‘Recycling Month.’’ To kick off the month-long recycling program, displays will be featured in the North Mall of Park Royal Shopping Centre starting April 2, where they will remain for one week. On the final day, Saturday, April 7, there will be a special event for children - a clown performing a skit on recycl- ing every hour from 10a.m. to Sp.m. Each performance is followed by a children’s mask and hat making work- shop in which recycled materials are used. In the last year, interest in recycling has jumped and consequently so’ have the number of recycling depots.
