HOLLYWOOD (UPI) - Costume designer Edith Head, who dressed movie stars from Mae West to Elizabeth Taylor and won a record eight Oscars, has died of a rare bone disease. She was 73. > Miss Head, who was also nominated for another 27 Academy Awards, finished work on her final film shortly before her death last Saturday evening at Good Samaritan Hospital. Her death, caused by an afflic- tion of the bone marrow, was not disclosed until Monday. A funeral ‘mass’ was SHE DRESSED THE STARS scheduled for 10 a.m. Wed- nesday — which would have been her 74th birthday — at the Roman Catholic Church of the Good Shephard in.. Beverly Hills. A_ private. interment was planned. Miss Head had her first solo movie designer credit for Mae West's “She Done Him Wrong” in 1933. She was first nominated for an Oscar for “The Emperor Waltz” in 1948 and won her first best costuming Oscar for “The Heiress” in 1949. In 1950 she won two best costume awards, for color and black-and-white films, for “Samson and Delilah” and “All About Eve.” Her other Oscars were for “A Place in the Sun” in 1951, “Roman Holiday in 1953, “Sabrina” in 1954, “The Facts of Life” in 1960 and “The Sting” in 1973. In 1963 she was nominated three times — for “A New Kind of Love,” “Love «with The Proper Stranger” and “Wives and Lovers.” In 1966, Miss Head ap- peared as herself in the movie “The Oscar,” and won an Oscar noniination for her costuming of the same film. “She was also nominated for “Carrie” and “The Rose Tatoo” in 1955, “The Ten Commandments” and “The Proud and Profane” in 1956, THERE WAS SOME early shopping going on at the Kiwanis Arts and Crafts fair held in North Van over the weekend.
